“Real haiku is the soul of poetry. Anything that is not actually present in one's heart is not haiku. The moon glows, flowers bloom, insects cry, water flows. There is no place we cannot find flowers or think of the moon. This is the essence of haiku. Go beyond the restrictions of your era, forget about purpose or meaning, separate yourself from historical limitations—there you will find the essence of true art, religion, and science.”

My Published Haiku
blown along the backstreet
going nowhere - empty can and baglady leaving home
the cord is cut again - my mother's pain city park -
tai chi master in a business suit Nullabor sunrise...
ravens devouring last night's road kill low tide -
stranded on sand the seagrass necklace |

My Other Haiku
pause in the wind...
a cockatoo's shriek breaks the silence cosy in its nest
a chick quizzically eyes the construction site reeds
moving yet not moving - afternoon reflection sunset
at Uluru - red on red |
a thunderstorm
disrupts our picnic... only the kookaburras laugh a pelican
slowly materializes - misty morning old memories
swirl round and round and round... raking autumn leaves |
5:00am...
a magpie chorus heralds the dawn sitting by the creek -
only the sound of jumping fish winter afternoon...
raindrops on the window tears in her eyes rock crevices
curves and caves... Mother Earth revealed |
chainsaw an old growth Karri tree falls from life to timber
